Choose the calculation by its output
The FBA planner combines your US account fees with optional import costs. eBay and Etsy worksheets apply stored US fee assumptions and display their sources; confirm your account tier and category. The general profit tool accepts your own fee inputs, while break-even price solves for the sale price needed to cover those costs. These answer different questions: whether a given sale works, and what price would make it work.
Put costs on the same basis
Convert shipment costs to a cost per sellable unit before comparing them with a per-order fee. Keep sales tax collected for a tax authority separate from revenue. Include advertising per sold unit, not cost per click, and account for returns and unsellable stock. A supplier invoice is not a landed cost, and a marketplace payout is not net profit.
A test before you order stock
For a $30 sale with $8 landed cost, $4.50 referral fee, $5 fulfilment, $3 advertising and a $1 returns allowance, contribution is $8.50 before subscription and overhead. Increase landed cost to $10 and advertising to $5: contribution falls to $4.50. Test both cases and decide whether the remaining cash justifies the inventory risk. These are illustrative inputs, not fee quotations.
Separate advertising and replenishment decisions
Break-even ACOS converts your pre-advertising contribution into a spending limit; it does not predict conversion or prove that a campaign will scale. Reorder point combines lead time with demand variability to answer when to buy. EOQ balances order cost with holding cost to answer how much to buy. Both inventory models need adjustment for supplier minimums, capacity limits and seasonal demand.
Scope and evidence
FBA and storage use account-specific inputs rather than an inferred current tariff. Stored marketplace schedules are dated in the source register. Supplementary worksheets flagged for verification remain available for illustration but are excluded from search and advertising. None of these tools connects to a marketplace account or guarantees a payout. Use your settlement and inventory reports to reconcile the estimate.
Can I use a US fee schedule in another currency?
Changing the currency symbol does not change a marketplace fee schedule. The marketplace tools use their stated market currency. For another market, use the general profit worksheet with locally applicable rates.
Should I include every tax in product cost?
Include costs that are economically yours. Recoverable import VAT and sales tax collected for a tax authority require separate accounting; their treatment depends on registration and jurisdiction. Confirm the treatment before using a profit estimate.
The rest of the chain
A shipment is priced in stages, and the stage you are on is rarely the only one that costs you money.
